It’s been happening live all day, the announcements for Huawei Joburg Day have been rolling out throughout the day. It is set to take place on 3 September and promises to be something special.

Eight of the best and brightest local acts have been announced, with the last one coming in later today. Those already announced are favourites including MiCasa, Matthew Mole, Kwesta, Timo ODV, Goodluck, as well as DJ Kent, Kyle DeutschShekhina and AKA.

I have a feeling the last announcement will be the hugely popular DJ and producer Sketchy Bongo.

“Huawei is super excited about the partnership with 947. It’s evident by the line up, that the hottest SA musicians will be performing at Huawei Joburg Day.  With the refreshed Huawei Joburg Day concept, concert goers are in for a unique experience,” said Hawa Hyath, Marketing Director, Huawei Consumer Business Group, Sub Sahara.

It’s going to be one not to miss and I may just see if I can buy myself a plane ticket and visit for that one!

It’ll take place at Crocodile Creek, near Lanseria on Saturday 3 September and it is going to be an incredible day and showcase. You can get your tickets for just R380 here.

What are you waiting for? Get going, you don’t want these to sell out!

I caught up with one of the brightest up and coming, local, producer and singer’s, TiMO ODV, who is making a name for himself in the industry.

We chatted about his smash hit single, ‘Save Me’, which has been received to rave reviews and has made it to number 1 on local charts, as well as his hopes for his work in the industry.

Why did you pick the moniker TIMO ODV?

My name is Timothy and my surname is Oude Vrielink, TiMO ODV is just a shortened version of that.

How would you describe your sound?

I’d have to say deep house mixed with pop and a little bit of everything in between

Who are your musical influences?

Ryan Leslie, John Mayer, Sam Smith, Taylor swift, Chris brown, Stimming, Franky Rizardo, EDX and 1000 other artists.

What was it like working with Sarah Jackson on ‘Save Me’?

It was awesome she has a really beautiful voice, we been best friends for a while now and we have songwriting sessions every week. You should hopefully be seeing a song of hers soon.

‘Save Me’ has proven to be smash hit locally, what was your initial reaction to the response?

Totally, Totally, Totally overwhelming I didn’t expect the response at all to be honest. I’m still shell-shocked to be honest.

What would you like to achieve in the music industry?

I’d like to win a SAMA have a couple #1’s and reach the UK top 40 somehow, that for me would be a dream.

Last but not least, what is up next for you?

I think just new music, need to carry on making more music and just pray that people respond as positively as they have been.

If you haven’t yet heard of local, producer and singer TiMO ODV, you clearly haven’t turned your radio on for the last few weeks.

The Johannesburg native has made a name for himself with his smash hit single, ‘Save Me’, with it climbing the charts and receiving major airplay.

His lesser known mixes are equally engrossing, from covers of Monsters and Men, to mashups of Mr Probz, Modjo and Kieza and showcase his range and versatility.

I then stumbled upon his EP, ‘Bulletproof’  where he teamed up with Acrazia. There are two versions of ‘Bullerproof’, one for deep house fans and another for those more inclined towards EDM. Personally I love both, and in equal measure. Each have their own unique pull that grabs from the start, pulsating beats, perfect harmonies and vocals.

I can’t wait to hear more from TiMO ODV, it’s only going to be more and more exciting.
