Die Antwoord.
If you haven’t heard of Die Antwoord you’ve clearly haven’t been on a computer or near the internet for the past few weeks. Now for all of you who have been unaware of this phenomenon, Die Antwoord is a “zef rap-rave” crew from Cape Town South Africa and is made up of Ninja (former Max Normal frontman Waddy Jones), Yo-landi Visser and DJ Hi-Tek.
According to their official website Die Antwoord is a “lovable, mongrel-like entity made in South Africa, the love-child of many diverse cultures, black, white, coloured and alien, all pumped into one wild and crazy journey down the crooked path to enlightenment.”
So why exactly are they so popular? Well, it’s the fans of course. When Die Antwoord was featured on blog Boing Boing in early February it was the start of a viral sensation across the globe-something no South African act has managed to a degree such as theirs.
They have over 500,000 views on YouTube for their video ‘Enter the Ninja’, not bad at for an international act, brilliant for a South African act and amazing for most, considering it’s doubled in just 3 days…
They have been dubbed “awesome in the manner that it’s everything that was wrong with the 80s. Think Vanilla Ice with a 5 year old fascination of ninjas… bad beats, disturbing female backup…so wrong and yet I can’t stop….”
Below is their video for ‘Enter the Ninja’. It makes for interesting viewing. For the lyrics click here. Enjoy!

[...] I recently wrote about the Die Antwoord and the viral sensation they have caused across the globe. Now even Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit fame is catching on and has taken to Twitter saying to them “I fucking LOVE your music, vibe, and chemistry. Take them by the fucking neck and choke’m down! Die Antwoord!” [...]
Dammit, I’ve been trying to do an article on them for a while but haven’t had the time… I’m contemplating the mammoth task of translating everything, or do you think some things are better left to the joys of those in the know?
I read you article, I liked it and some things are better left to the joys of those in the know. definitely.
