Rihanna’s Rated R album launch with Nokia
Rihanna made history when she performed for a global audience via Nokia’s live streamed concert in London tonight, which officially marked the launch of her much anticipated new album, Rated R. The concert was broadcast at 10pm local SA time. I eagerly tuned in at 5 to 10 and caught a few interviews with various fans. The stream cut off for a bit but when the concert started there were no real technical hitches.
“It’s the moment before the moment.” said the presenter “It’s Rihanna. Live at Brixton.” The crowd went wild. The concert opened with Mad House and Rihanna made her appearance. She looked fierce. Like Lady Gaga meets Beyonce meets, erm, well Rihanna. She then went into the song Wait Your Turn and then into Russian Roulette (which is the first single off her new album and describes her tumultuous relationship with Chris Brown).
Then the fans were treated to an oldie but a goodie in the form of Please Don’t Stop The Music. She then went on to sing one of my least favourite song of hers, Take a Bow, but surprisingly enough the live version was really very good. She then took one of her more edgy tracks, Disturbia and toned it down. Young Jeezy made an appearance and they treated us to another one of her new songs, Hard which has hit written all over it. Then it was time for a mix of SOS and Unfaithful. Loved it.
She went on to sing one of her many hits Live Your Life (which the crowd really enjoyed) but the moment that had the fans going crazy was when Jay-Z came on during Run This Town. Then when they sang Umbrella an audience member had an umbrella open, which made for classic viewing!
The Rated R album launch was over all too quickly. I loved the concert, loved the concept and loved the way Rihanna says Nokia (it’s adorable). I can’t wait to get the album on the 23rd!

Love your review, I thought the same thing about the way Rihanna says Nokia when I interviewed her 2 weeks before. What a tragedy you couldn’t make it for the event… be sure to drop me a line if you’re ever in London.
