The xx
I was recently told to take a listen to a band the xx (who were coincidentally featured in MAP last month-as England’s choice) and I’ve been rather intrigued by them…
The xx, are a group of four teenagers from South London currently making waves in the UK. Their blend of electro, D’nB combined with Baria Qureshi on keyboards and guitar and Jamie Smith on beats. The distinctive vocals of Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim help form it into a shimmering, melodic sound.
Their influences range from Aaliyah to CocoRosie, Rihanna to The Cure, Missy Elliott to Chromatics, The Kills to Ginuwine, Pixies to Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake.
The BBC called their music an “enigmatic and moody blend of smoky crooning, nimble keyboard trickery and slippery treble-heavy riffs.”
These guys look to be the next big thing out-keep an eye out for them!
