Exclusive Isochronous Interview
Isochronous are a “progressive synth-rock band”. Their music has been described as “dynamic, innovative, progressive, and very much open to experimentation – always pushing the rhythmical and melodic boundaries within music. With this diverse mix of influences, the group succeeds in creating a majestic musical journey, leading the audience through a gallery of sound…”
Richard says they picked the name as “We wanted a name that was orientated around time. In the end music is about manipulating time into sound waves. Hence the word Isochronous. We’re getting in sync with our own sound, our own time.”
The band met in late 2006 when “Richard and Marko first started jamming in a fusion band called Musick. It started with an exchange student from Argentina (Alfredo Ridolfo) when the student left they carried on having jam sessions till a solid song was recorded in Marko’s home studio. Soon after Franco (Bass) and Alex (Keys) joined the band and a great creative connection was felt..”
They are most heavily influenced by “Wise music as well as bands such as Mew, Muse, Jeff Buckley, Deftones, The Mars Volta, and composers like Rachmaninov, Hans Zimmer and Victor Wooten.”
New things happening are “the debut self-titled album is getting distributed through Sony records nation wide and a couple of tours around the country will follow the release of the album. There a couple of videos in the pipeline and a lot of new material has been created. There is talk of a new album to be recorded.”
What they would like to achieve in the music industry “is a tricky question. [as they] consider that that there is no industry for progressive music in this country. I guess we’d like to open minds, to the certain music we play but that is an ideal not an achievement.”
They started making music as “You’ve either get into something to improve that thing or to improve yourself, for us it’s the latter. Music teaches us the most efficiently.”
When performing Richards favourite thing is “How sensitive our awareness becomes. It’s like being drunk with emotion.”
They’ll “give a hint” as to the new single they’re releasing [which is] “Beograd”
Recording the album “was hard working fun”. “Beauty Queen “happens to be their favourite track off the album-and they didn’t do anything off the wall whilst in studio as their “budget didn’t allow them to”
Richard “(being the Drama Queen)“ takes the longest to get ready before a gig. Franco and Marko are in a jazz quartet called Hollow Body Orchestra as a side project. Alex talks the most rubbish in the band. Franco is the messiest on tour and one of the craziest things that happened at a show was that “a strange guy tried to rob Richard while he was performing”.
