News from CODA
CODA is the one band that simply ‘has it all’ when it comes to corporate entertainment – with a stylish combination of instruments (electrifying strings, cool jazz sax and hot house DJ), a sensational lead vocalist and some seriously ‘party igniting’ songs, there’s something for everyone.
Here’s some news and reviews about the band..
Cape Times Review:
by: Jane Mayne
One of Cape Town’s favourite acts steps out with a tantalizing beat-driven Afro electro thumper spiked with sharp classical touches. Produced by hit-maker Gabi le Roux, their African Renaissance offers retro-leaning clubby material with hugely danceable tracks such as ‘It’s Still the Music’ and ‘O Mama’. ‘Stand Together’ has great instrumentation hooks, followed by a sleek swirler – the more romantic ‘Take Care’. Solid beats fill the spaces behind Yolanda Yawa on ‘Life’ and it’s all systems go back to clubland with ‘To be African’. The zigzagging strings on ‘Shake A Umdidi’ are a winner.
Cape Town Magazine Review:
‘Widely loved for their vibrant live performances, CODA ranks right up there alongside the likes of Goldfish and Freshly Ground as one of the hottest bands in South Africa at the moment. Their Afro-fusion sound is classy, refreshing and uplifting and is a rich blend of warm vocals, electric strings, saxophone, hypnotizing beats and a few other surprises, all brought together with a distinctly South African flavour. The latest CD is a very worthy – perhaps vital – addition to any CD collection of South African music.’
