Exclusive Prime Circle Interview
Prime Circle-a synonymous with great South African music. They (Ross Learmonth, Dale Schnettler, Dirk Bisschoff, Marco Gomes and Neil Breytenbach)started out in 2001 and came up and took the local charts by storm and firmly established themselves as the biggest selling South African rock act of the early 2000’s.
The band met in a rather complicated way back in 2001 as “we all had bands of our own but merged into one to form Prime Circle. Dirk (with whom I got the interview) said they chose the name Prime Circle “because we aspire to be a prime circle of friends and musicians, plus the name sounded good at the time.”
Their new offering ‘All Or Nothing’ is reputedly their best yet. It certainly has everything you could want from Prime Circle, and they have taken their sound to a new level with rock producer Theo Crous leading the way. Dirks favourite song from the album is “Out of this place!” which is one of the heavier rock tracks.
Currently the new P.C DVD is being prepped for release early this year; there are also talks of a possible European release of their album this year as well. They recently released a new music video for ‘She always gets what she wants’ but the next single “will be a surprise! There will be much more happening this year, but “unfortunately we are unable to divulge that information at this time…”
Becoming as well known internationally as they are here in South Africa is something the band would like to achieve. And might just be possible as Dirk said “we have just finished a month tour of South Africa, and we are busy setting up a tour middle year for Europe…” As for who is the messiest whilst the band is on tour? Well he’s not “at liberty to divulge that information!”
None of the band members are working on side projects as “currently all of our efforts are being put into Prime Circle, as we strive to be a tight working unit!”
