Just Jinjer-Exclusive Interview
Contemporary rock outfit Just Jinjer comprises of Ard Mattews (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar), Brent Harris (Drums, Vocals) and Denholm Harding (Bass, Vocals).
Just Jinjer is the number one selling rock band in South African history, with over 240,000 units sold.
The band met “as drummers in various bands and became friends…” The name Just Jinger came about due to “Boredom; plus it sounded like a good idea at the time, sort of a made up slang. Everything’s Just Jinjer, just dandy”
In 2006 Just Jinger changed the spelling of their name to ‘Just Jinjer’, to avoid having the second word in their name mispronounced.
They released a new eponymous album in 2006 with this new spelling, consisting of 13 songs including both new and old material…
They recently got signed to Curb Records in USA and “have an international debut album coming out in March ’09…”
Their influences are “varied…there are 100′s… good music is good music, regardless of genre…”
“To bring back actual music and melody with a message of positivity” is what they would achieve in the music industry.
The new single they are releasing is ‘Can I Have More’ and the band all “have different favourite [songs off the album]. The album holds up with anything out there at the moment, no fillers. We gave our best…”
They will “Most definitely” do an SA tour once their visa issues have been sorted…
As to whom the longest to get ready before a gig “it varies. We don’t prep all that much…”Their side projects include “Ard [having] a charity album coming out..”Denholm talks the most rubbish “hands down” and Brent is “hands down” messiest on tour…”
Just Jinjer have spent about six years in the USA and two more in London, all of which has contributed to the band’s growth and influenced their sound.
The band looks set for more great things so watch out.
