Exclusive Interview with Blast Rocks Midtown

I caught up with Mike Wurum from BRM and we discussed choosing the band name, the new EP and about buying a junk van or schoolbus and hitting the road..

Why did you pick the band name? We picked the name Blast Rocks Midtown pretty randomly I would have to say. We were all sitting in the studio recording our “In The Attic Sessions.” One of us picked up a newspaper and while reading, came across a headline that read, “Blast Rocks Midtown Manhattan today!” And it was a wrap from there.
How did the band meet? Pat and Myself(Mike) both grew up in the same dead-end, square-mile long town. We both played the guitar and went to school together our whole life. The funny thing was, we had never played together but both were told by everyone that it was a must. So finally, years later we tried it out and it worked amazingly. I then went and found the remaining members through Myspace…lol. Blackmon was from Connecticut, James way from Philadelphia, PA and Felix flew out from Los Angeles, CA. Now we are Blast Rocks Midtown!
What are the new things happening? We just recently released our debut record entitled, “Step Up Get Down” It is a 6-song EP that is available at the Official BRM Web Store. It is also currently available at www.digstation.com and will be available on iTunes, Rhapsody and all other major digital downloading sites within the next few months. We’re looking to secure a distribution deal to possibly get it on shelves at FYE, Best Buy and Walmart.
What you’d like to achieve in the music industry? Success. We would like to make a decent living off of the music that we make. Artistic expression is a huge thing for us, and if we were able to make it our career..it would be the ultimate Awesomeness!
What’s the new single your releasing (or will it be a surprise)? The single is entitled, “Step In” It’s a really dancy-electro song. Definitely catchy and a lot of fun! Check it out!
And do you have a favorite song from the EP? We all have our own favs, but personally I would probably say “Secret” I actually sing on the record for that one. It’s a very touching song for me and I love performing it.
Are you touring anytime soon? Hopefully the record sells nicely and we can have some money to buy a junk van or schoolbus and hit the road.
Who takes the longest to get ready before a gig? There would definitely have to be a tie breaker between Myself and Blackmon..we’re like girls..its pretty sad..we get made fun of all the time.
Are any of you working on side projects? Though, I am a songwriter and compose hiphop beats as well as music for a plethora of genres, I do not have a side project. No one in the band does…our main focus is BRM..theres no time to commit anywhere else. That would toally be like cheating on your girlfriend..and we are loyal mofos!
Who talks the most rubbish (at any given moment)? James..he doesnt even know what he says sometimes…he’s the most random. Very awesome person though..just extremely random…lots and lots of rubbish…lol
Who is the messiest on tour? James would take the bait for that one also…Definitely the messiest as well…lol
