Exclusive HAEZER Interview
Haezer was raised on a fusion of sounds and has asserted himself as one of the most “progressive sound smiths” on the modern Electro scene.
He combines “elements of punk, breakbeat and industrial music with his already glitch-ridden Electroclash sound…”
He picked the name Haezer as “I’ve gone through more names than Madonna’s had dick…in the end, it always sounded cheesy and fake. HAEZER comes from my name Ebenhaezer-I think it’s interesting, personal and not trying to be anything than what it is..my name…
He’s been passionate about music from a very early age. He explains “I grew up on violent femmes and beck. My brother was a bit of an old school rocker, so I was very lucky with the music I was surrounded with. I remember getting fruity loops when I was in grade 8…I thought it was the coolest thing…messing around till 4-5 o’clock in the morning and I guess I haven’t stopped, just working on more advanced music making software..
The whole punk ideology and loose way of making music has an influence on his music making and his influences range from “metal, punk, hardcore, techno, to rave and electro, as well as prodigy’s brutal beats, dieselboy, pendulum and the legendary dnb boys’ fierce basslines and rage agaisnt the machine’s gritty guitars all influence my tracks indirectly.”
He started out making music as a form of “expression. It started off with very internalized, almost dramatic tunes…it was very chilled, trip hop, breakbeat with a theatrical feel to it. I did that till about 3rd year at film school. I made enough tracks to complete an album. It was very draining making such emotive tracks, driven purely by what I was feeling and going through…making most of the tracks from 21:00 till 5:00 the morning… but then my laptop got stolen with all the tracks, separates, project files, everything…I saw it as a sign and for some reason wasn’t phased by it at all… Then I thought, well, shit, I’ve been listening to punk all my life and partied on breakbeat, drum and bass and electro…Why not make some ‘fun’ music and just do what I want…So I started and the tracks just flowed…the only thing that held me back was me enjoying the tracks so much, I ended up listening to the tracks over and over nodding my head and dancing with my headphones on instead of finishing it…”
He’s started to host “a bi-monthly electro party called T.I.T.E.S. it’s taking off VERY slowly, but I’ve got hope for the future ones…just cause I think the music will be top class and our goal is just to throw insanely rad parties where there is no ego bullshit involved, just awesome music, cheap drinks and memorable nights.” He continues “I’m also starting to do more dj gigs…as well as busy mixing and mastering some tracks at the moment and will probably have about 10 tracks ready by mid next year…I also have 2 new music videos in the pipeline. I’m starting a remix project…remixing local bands…I hope to do at least 5 remixes in the next 2 months…”
He would like to “put CT electro on the map, to get international exposure and to create music of the highest standard and completely original. With T.I.T.E.S. I want to give other SA electro artists a platform where they can play live and create some excitement about our local artists and generally throw big ass parties…”
He doesn’t really have a favourite artist to remix and he is “very keen to do a remix for a hard rock band as well as “being amped to do something wack with a hip hop track…maybe MaxNormal.tv or ETC CREW perhaps…I’m starting on a remix for Tigerstrike which I’m very excited about too.”
He’s recording an EP at the moment and his favourite song from the EP as of yet, is ‘Crack in the Wall’ he thinks “once it’s mixed and mastered, it will be super hot…” With regards to his new single he tells me “I’ve just finished recording new vocals for ‘Who the fuck is HAEZER’ with Tamsin MacCarthy and am busy with a track called ‘Harder’…It’s a banger…the hardest track I’ve made so far…” He plans to tour once the EP is released “the idea is to play some live shows once I’ve got an EP package done…at this stage I’m still DJing..”
He’s also worked on a track ‘Sirens In The Night’ with Jax Panik and it’s has hit written all over it! I cant’ wait to see what the future holds for HAEZER.
