Exclusive interview with Ashtray Electric

“Firmly set in the belief that a bottle of red wine can solve anything and that making music is the most fun you can have (pants sans or avec), Ashtray Electric brings you a fresh new sound that is a delicate mixture of foot-tapping beats and rolling riffs.

Ashtray Electric, being a quaint mixture consisting of 3 parts suburb and 2 parts platteland, enjoys writing music that draws little bits from a larger selection of other musical styles and genres. “

I sat down with Rudi from Ashtray Electric (if by sitting down you mean emailing) and grilled him on  all things from how they met to whats new and happening with the band!

Here’s what he had to say:

On meeting: We met through and as friends. Some of us were in school together and other we kind of just met down the way and over a couple of toots (drinks).

On The New things Happening: We’ve just recorded a new track [Quite Overstared] for the Bellville Rock City compilation being launched soon. It’s all the bands from Bellville including aKing, Fokofpolisiekar, New Holland, KOBUS, Springbok Nude Girls, Jax Panik, Foto Na Dans etc etc. It also comes with a 30min documentary DVD about the bands on the compilation. There are also plans in the pipeline to follow up The Swing’s video with a video for this track.

What they’d like to achieve in the industry: As a band we would like to bring out a full length album as early as possible next year and tour a bit more. It’s maybe a bit less world domination and more just keeping on growing and see where it takes us.

On making more musical mayhem: We’re in the process of writing some new material.
